This course gives owners, managers and administrators of Australian building and construction businesses a practical, plain-English guide to leading change well. It treats change management not as a corporate abstraction but as the everyday work of getting a real crew — busy, sceptical, spread across sites, and heavily subcontracted — to actually adopt something new and keep using it. It starts by defining what change management is and separating the two halves of any change: the technical side (the new software, system, structure or rule) and the people side (helping individuals let go of the old way and take up the new one). It then explains, with construction examples, why change efforts so often fail when the people side is neglected.
From there the course works through a simple change process a small or mid-sized business can actually run: building a clear case for change and communicating it so people understand why; planning the change so it is realistic and sequenced sensibly; engaging people early and consulting them genuinely rather than announcing decisions after the fact; understanding why people resist and managing that resistance constructively; providing the training and support people need to succeed under the new way; and embedding and reviewing the change so it becomes "how we do things here" instead of quietly reverting. Throughout, it draws out the leadership behaviours and communication habits that make the difference. Finally, it deals plainly with the places where change is not just a management choice but a legal obligation — the WHS duty to consult workers where a change may affect their health and safety, and the consultation expectations that apply under the Fair Work system when a change significantly affects employees.
